Uncle John Schwarz picked us up and brought us to the airport where we met, my parents, Jami and Louie, and Bette and Don for our trip to Maui.
Landon was flying as a lap child, and we were hoping he wouldn't be too wiggly, as he had only started walking about a week prior to the trip. When we checked in however Nate and I weren't seated next to each other, so it was much more difficult to have a squirming 14 month old on my lap, and trying to keep him off of the people sitting next to me. Luckily Mom and Dad, Jami and Louie were seated behind Landon and I, which offered him some entertainment.
While boarding Mom was able to go check out the cockpit of the airplane.
I had brought my tablet with movies, hoping Landon would watch something, but he wasn't very interested in it. I also brought some books, but the plane was so noisy that it was hard to read to him, and so snacks were the best form on entertainment. That 5.5 hour flight seemed to take forever!
Once we landed we headed for our rental car. We were sharing a car with Bette and Don, and my parents were sharing with Jami and Louie. We then made our way around the island to the Ka'anapali Beach Club Resort.
We were happy to find that our rooms were nice a big. We had a large master bedroom and bathroom. Plus a kitchen with small dining area and a living room. We were able to get a pack-n-play for Landon to sleep in from the hotel, so we didn't have to bring that along too. After getting settled we headed downstairs to eat at a restaurant in our hotel.

Tuesday
The second day, we were supposed to have some rain, so we went the the Maui Ocean Center. While there we watched the feeding at the large shark tank. Landon started running into the shark tunnel at one point, but when he came to an area that had a "glass bottom floor" he would fall down and back off of it, or want picked up, because he thought it was a hole in the floor.
We ate lunch at the Seascape restaurant, located at the aquarium. It has a beautiful view of the ocean and harbor, and some of the best fish tacos!
We had to take Landon back to the hotel for a nap, and while we did that the rest of the group went exploring the beach, or what was left of the beach in front of our hotel. Due to high surf in the past year the beach has eroded and there is a several feet drop down from the bank that is chained off, with no real easy access.
That evening we went to Bubba Gumps for dinner, where Landon was hamming it up. He also figured out how to drink from a straw.
Wednesday
Day three we went on a snorkel tour aboard the Quicksilver. The weather wasn't good at Molokini so they took us to two other locations instead. Bette didn't want to get in the water, so she stayed on the boat with Landon where they could look down a hatch to a small glass bottom area to see fish and coral. The rest of us enjoyed snorkeling.
At the second location it was more choppy, and at one point we even saw a black tip reef shark. Jami is very scared of sharks and it took some convincing for her to even go on this snorkel trip. We told her we had gone on many snorkel trips, and never seen a shark, so of coarse this would be the time to see a shark. Luckily she stayed calm, and made it back to the boat okay. I think she would probably even try it again.
On our way back the the harbor we even saw a pod of bottle nose dolphins feeding!
Unfortunately Dad learned the hard way that if you don't wear sunscreen when you snorkel, you will get burned!!!
Ouch!
Our hotel had a small mini putt golf coarse on top of the roof, and some of the group enjoyed playing a few games. It was actually free to play, you just had to go get a ball and club, and then return them when done.
Landon really improved his walking on this trip. He really liked going out of the balcony, but when the door was shut, he couldn't figure out why he couldn't get out as it looked like the door was still open.
We all went to the Royal Lahina Luau on Thursday night. The food was excellent and we all enjoyed it.
Dad and Don wanted to go to the "free orientation breakfast" hoping to get an ATV tour at a discount. Only after spending half the day they realized they weren't getting anything discounted without giving them money, and it was a huge waste of time. But while they were doing that, us younger people headed to the beach.
Later in the day we went swimming at the pool, and then also walked and shopped in Lahaina.
Saturday
Saturday we drove the Road to Hana. We stopped several times along the way to make it tolerable. There was really only one main restaurant we could find in Hana, and it was horribly expensive, but food is food. We were going to share meals, but they charge you like $10 just to share a meal, so Nate and Louie decided brownie sundaes sounded good for lunch! Jami and I ordered chicken strips with fries, but then they told us one of their fryers wasn't working and we would have to have chips instead.

After lunch we headed to the Seven Sacred Pools, which was very beautiful. Afterwards we decided that instead of heading back the way we came, we were going to continue on the road and loop around the south side of the island. This road as it turns out is way scarier that the normal way, and we were glad that every time we met a car it happened at the wider spots in the road. The road is no more than one lane in many spots, and drop offs along the ocean with many blind corners. Several miles are gravel, but the gravel was in better condition than most of the paved areas.
Sunday
The next morning Nate and Louie rented some snorkel gear and went up to explore Honolua Bay. While there they saw some turtles, along with the usual fish.
later we all had fun in the pool, and then in the evening my parents watched Landon and Nate and I went on a double date with Jami and Louie down in Lahaina.
Monday
The next morning we went to Slappy Cakes where you can make your own pancakes at the table. They were good, but overpriced for what it was.
Don and Louie wanted to go Parasailing, so they did that while the rest of us explored some shops and then we had lunch at Leilani's on the beach.
Tuesday
We rented snorkel gear and went up to Kapalua Bay. Bette stayed on the beach with Landon while the rest of us snorkeled, and then we went to a place nearby for lunch.

Wednesday
A little pool time, and packing today. As I was packing, I was trying to find my watch which I would take off at night and put on the nightstand. I checked each bag over and over and I just simply couldn't find it. As a last chance I looked in the kitchen garbage, and sure enough I found my watch. Apparently little Landon didn't think I needed it anymore!
In the evening us ladies went shopping one final time while Nate watched Landon.
Nate took Landon for a walk at a big open area across from where we were staying, and while the sun was setting there was a beautiful rainbow. As Nate stopped to take a picture Landon started playing with something ... turned out to be dog poop! Yuck! Luckily he had brought some wet wipes with him, but he also got a thorough cleaning after getting back to the hotel.
Thursday
Our flight home was much nicer. We actually got to sit next to each other, with Bette and Don next to us. Landon actually slept on the way home, so the flight didn't seem to take so long.
